Mindfulness Techniques Can Decrease Stress, Anxiety, Anger, and Depression
Stress, depression, anxiety, and trauma live within many of us, holding us back from being our best selves. Transforming our outlook into a more positive and productive one may take time and a little work on our part, but learning to cope with anxiety and depression is possible and we can easily add techniques to our everyday lives that will strengthen our minds and our resolve.
How do we do this, you ask? Well, positive self-talk and meaningful self-care are highly effective, but mindfulness as a whole is the true secret. But what is mindfulness and where can we find it?
What Is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness is a conscious and intentional awareness of where we are and how we are currently feeling at this moment of stress. Mindfulness practices allow you to accept your feelings for what they are and help you further your ability to learn and adapt from them. Our feelings and our emotions are not good or bad, they just are. And some are more destructive than others.
Effective mindfulness practices can help you ignore the ruminating thoughts of your past and the fearful, unknowing apprehensions of the future. Do you wish to eliminate your tendency towards self-criticism and learn how to manage disruptive, and destructive, emotions? Mindfulness may be the key to fulfilling your life's ambitions confidently.
Effective Mindfulness Techniques
You can begin practicing mindfulness with small changes immediately. To begin, slow down. If you find yourself overcome, angry, sad, or stressed, then stop what you are doing and take a minute to yourself. Mindfulness is essential for true self-care and using these techniques throughout your day can give you immediate results.
Clear Your Mind
Don't suppress those feelings, but, for a moment, set them aside and clear your mind. You will need them again, but at this time, just focus on your senses. You can close your eyes or sit down if you wish. But always remind yourself that you are not your problems and they don't define you. You are strong and you can handle anything in your way.
Concentrate On The Physical
Body scanning is an effective meditation technique. Put all of your attention on a single body part at a time, starting with the tips of your toes and on until your reach the top of your head. Get in touch with how your body feels physically and concentrate on it.
Breathe
Just breathe. Pay attention to the way that you breathe and ground yourself. Send positive energy out into the world. Mindfulness employs meditation. Clear your mind so that you can make room in your head for the emotions to flow back in, without being afraid or judgmental. You are not your mistakes.
When you feel confident and more in control of your emotions, then pull them back in. All of them. Pick up those emotions and hold them. Feel them, just don't BE them. These emotions don't define you, so don't let them control you. Breathe and feel; just let it happen. Accept what you feel and why you feel them.
